Stuart Sky Villa, Hakuba, Japan
Our first residential project in Japan blends the strong cultural language of Japanese Architecture with a contemporary design idiom. The 485 sqm ski home is designed to be built entirely out of reclaimed timber from old Japanese farm houses using the traditional technique of ‘Shou Sugi ban’ where the timber is torched and becomes black and resilient to all rot and insects. The house faces the mountains and is a stones throw away from all the ski slopes of Hakuba, Japan.
